Camino Pocket is two things: an iPhone app and the Camino Journey web tool. They behave differently, so they are described separately. The app makes no network requests. The web tool does, because it needs map tiles and place search.
| Topic | iPhone app | Camino Journey web |
|---|---|---|
| Personal data collected | None. Location is measured once, only when you save a moment, and is stored on the device. There is no account and no sign-in. | None. The JSON you open is processed inside your browser and is never sent anywhere. |
| Where it is stored, and for how long | On your iPhone only. Deleting the app deletes the records with it. | Nothing is stored. No cookies and no browser storage, so closing the tab ends it. |
| Data sent off the device | None. There is no server, no sync and no analytics, so every feature works in airplane mode. | Only map tile requests and the place-search term leave the browser. Your records are not part of those requests. |
| Third parties | None. The app uses no third-party SDKs. | OpenFreeMap (map tiles) and Photon (place search), limited to the requests that reach them. Both learn your IP address by receiving the request. |
| Your choices | Delete the app, or reset the data in Settings, and every record is gone. | Close the tab. Nothing is left to delete. |
| Contact | Open an issue in the repository, or reach us on Discord. | The same. |
The app works with location permission denied. A moment is saved without coordinates, and you can fill them in later on the web. The only permission the app asks for is location while in use — never always-on and never background location.
